WHEN MILONGA STARTS…

When a milonga tanda starts, something changes.

The dance floor often becomes a little emptier. And the dancers who get up to dance are really special.

Milonga has a way of revealing a dancer. You notice their sense of rhythm, their musicality, their improvisation, the connection with their partner — and their personality.

If you already love dancing milonga, imagine having even more to play with.

A richer vocabulary. Different rhythmic possibilities. New ways of interpreting the music. More room for creativity, character and your own flavour.

This workshop brings some of the knowledge of an earlier generation into your dancing today.

A larger vocabulary gives you more choices — not simply more steps. It gives you different ways to respond to the music, improvise with your partner and play with rhythm while keeping the connection. And the more possibilities you have, the more space there is for your own musicality, creativity and personality to come through.

WHY THIS WORKSHOP IS SPECIAL

The connection to the past here is very real.

Pepito Avellaneda was one of the great personalities of milonga — known for his extraordinary rhythm, playfulness and unmistakably personal way of dancing.

Alejandro Aquino studied with Pepito and later worked with him in Milonga Boulevard. 

During these three days, Alejandro will draw on knowledge passed to him by Pepito and explore vocabulary, embrace, rhythm, musicality and interpretation from an earlier generation of milongueros — and show you how to make it part of your own milonga. Six 90-minute sessions in a small group, giving us time to explore the material in depth and work with it in our own dancing. The workshop is intended for experienced tango dancers who already dance milonga. It isn’t an introduction to milonga. It is an opportunity to enrich the milonga you already have.

PEPITO & ALEJANDRO

PEPITO AVELLANEDA (1930–1996)

Some dancers leave steps behind. Others leave a way of dancing.

Pepito belonged to the second group.

Born José Domingo Monteleone in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, Pepito started dancing at twelve and gave his first public exhibition in 1945 — right in the middle of tango’s Golden Age.

Milonga became one of his signatures. Rhythmic, playful and inventive, he was known not only for dancing existing vocabulary but for experimenting, creating and developing his own way of moving to the music. Teaching became an important part of Pepito’s life, in Argentina and internationally. His knowledge passed to another generation of dancers — including Alejandro Aquino, who studied directly with him and later worked with Pepito in Milonga Boulevard.

That connection is at the heart of this workshop.

We are not simply looking at how Pepito danced. We are following a line of knowledge passed from one generation to another — and exploring what it can bring to the milonga we dance today.

ALEJANDRO AQUINO

Alejandro Aquino learned from some of the important dancers of an earlier generation, among them Antonio Todaro, Miguel Balmaceda and Pepito Avellaneda.

His own career took him beyond the classroom. He was selected by Osvaldo Pugliese to dance on international tours, became part of Tango Argentino, and created and directed his own productions like Milonga Boulevard where Pepito himself appeared.

Today Alejandro is based in Venice, where he leads his Academia de Tango Argentino and he will share some of that knowledge and show how to bring it into the milonga we dance today.

Accommodation isn’t included, so you are free to choose what suits your budget and style.

For the easiest workshop weekend, we recommend staying around San Marco/Rialto. You will be close to the Saturday and Sunday venue, surrounded by Venice when you step outside, and well placed for vaporetto connections.

VENICE & TANGO

VENICE IN AUTUMN

By October, Venice begins to change.

The intense summer gives way to softer light, cooler evenings and a different rhythm. It is a lovely time to walk without much of a plan — across a bridge, alongside a canal, into a small campo — and see where Venice takes you.

There is, of course, San Marco, Rialto and the Grand Canal. But give yourself time for the quieter Venice too: Cannaregio and Castello, a tiny bacaro, cicchetti with a glass of wine, a vaporetto ride across the lagoon or simply sitting beside a canal watching the boats go by.

And our October dates bring something extra.

The 61st Venice Art Biennale, In Minor Keys, runs until 22 November, with exhibitions at the Giardini, Arsenale and locations across Venice.

At exactly the same time, the 70th Biennale Musica, A Child of Sound, runs from 10–24 October, with concerts, performances and installations throughout our workshop weekend.

As the October calendar is confirmed, we will add the best opportunities to go out together and dance.

Before booking your travel

The workshop requires a minimum of 14 paying participants.

Please do not book non-refundable flights or accommodation before registration closes on the 1st of October and we have confirmed with you that the workshop is going ahead.

If the minimum number is not reached and Tango2Vacation cancels the workshop, all payments made to Tango2Vacation will be refunded in full. Tango2Vacation cannot reimburse independently booked flights, accommodation or other travel expenses.

The Workshop Only price is €245 per person.

A 50% deposit (€122.50) is required to confirm your place. Please make the payment within 7 days of registration and no later than 1 October 2026.

The remaining €122.50 is payable upon arrival.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellation by participants

More than 14 days before arrival
100% of the deposit will be refunded, less a €25 administration fee and any bank/payment charges.

7–14 days before arrival
50% of the deposit will be refunded, less any non-recoverable third-party costs already incurred, a €25 administration fee, and any bank/payment charges.

Less than 7 days before arrival
The deposit is non-refundable.

After the workshop has started, the full workshop price remains payable, unless a suitable last-minute replacement participant is found and accepted by the organiser.

No-show

In case of a no-show, the full workshop price (€245) is payable.

Cancellation by Tango2Vacation

The workshop requires a minimum of 14 paying participants.

If this minimum is not reached and Tango2Vacation cancels the workshop, all payments made to Tango2Vacation will be refunded in full.

Tango2Vacation cannot reimburse independently booked flights, accommodation or other travel arrangements.

CHANGES TO THE WORKSHOP

Tango2Vacation may make reasonable changes to the workshop schedule, teacher, venue or other included arrangements if necessary due to operational circumstances, availability, safety considerations or circumstances beyond our control.

Where possible, any replacement or change will be of a comparable standard.

TRAVEL & INSURANCE

Participants arrange and pay for their own travel, accommodation, arrival arrangements and insurance.

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, medical expenses, accidents, travel disruption and other unexpected circumstances.

If illness, injury, flight disruption or another personal circumstance prevents you from travelling, the resulting expenses remain the responsibility of the participant and/or their insurance provider.

FORCE MAJEURE

Tango2Vacation cannot be held responsible for delays, changes or cancellation caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, extreme weather, war, terrorism, political unrest, epidemics or pandemics, government restrictions, strikes or major transport disruption.

If the workshop must be cancelled due to force majeure, payments made to Tango2Vacation will be refunded after deduction of any non-recoverable costs already committed to third parties, unless an alternative date or arrangement is accepted by the participant.
