The workshops are at the heart of the weekend. Around them, choose how much Budapest — and how much tango — you would like to add.

THURSDAY · 14 JANUARY

BUDAPEST HIGHLIGHTS & A TASTE OF HUNGARY

Discover Budapest on a private tour through some of the places that give the city its character — its grand boulevards and squares, the Castle District, the Danube and the stories behind them.

We’ll stop in Városliget — City Park for freshly baked kürtőskalács, Hungary’s traditional chimney cake.

THE GRAND BUDAPEST · OPERA & COFFEEHOUSE

Step inside the magnificent Hungarian State Opera House for a guided visit through its richly decorated interiors, including a short concert by Opera soloists.

Afterwards, we continue along Andrássy Avenue for coffee and cake at Művész Kávéház.

Budapest’s coffeehouses were once meeting places for writers, artists, journalists and intellectuals — places to meet, debate, write and create.

A little music, architecture, coffee and cake — and a taste of old Budapest.

FAREWELL DINNER

After our final workshop, we come together around the table for one last evening.

Enjoy a relaxed four-course Hungarian dinner, accompanied by two glasses of wine or beer.

Hungarian flavours, good wine and time to enjoy each other’s company after three days of dancing.

After dinner, those who would like to continue can walk with us to the Sunday milonga at Kazimír Ház and finish the weekend back on the dance floor.

A limited number of 60-minute private lessons with the maestros will be available around the workshop schedule.

CANYENGUE & OUR MAESTROS & VENUE

CANYENGUE

Playful. Grounded. Intimate. Full of character.

Canyengue takes us into an early chapter of Argentine tango.

Its close embrace, grounded movement and strong relationship with rhythm give the dance its unmistakable character.

Its seemingly simple vocabulary leaves room for musical interpretation, communication and play between two dancers.

Exploring it can help us experience familiar elements of tango from another perspective — the walk, the embrace, rhythm, weight and the relationship with our partner.

ZSÓFI & ANDRÁS

Zsófi and András have been dancing together for 13 years, while dance has been part of both their lives for more than 35 years.

Their experience includes several forms of dance, with folk traditions playing an important role in their development.

András has travelled several times to Buenos Aires and Montevideo, studying with maestros whose dancing carried the spirit and influence of Canyengue.

They approach tango as a living entity in its own right — one that has a past, a present and a future.

For them, exploring Canyengue isn’t about reproducing another era. It is about understanding where tango came from, experiencing it through the body and discovering what those roots can bring to the dance today.

WHERE TO STAY – NH BUDAPEST CITY

Stay just a few minutes from the workshops.

Our recommended hotel is NH Budapest City, at Vígszínház utca 3.

The workshop studio is approximately five minutes away on foot, making it easy to move between your room and the classes.

The hotel is also close to the Danube, Parliament, cafés, restaurants and public transport.

Room rates

  • Single occupancy: €75 per room, per night
  • Double occupancy: €85 per room, per night

Rates include breakfast, taxes, Wi-Fi, and access to the fitness room and sauna.

Payment

The full cost of the reservation must be paid seven days before arrival. Credit or debit card details are required to confirm the booking.

Cancellation

Reservations may be cancelled free of charge up to seven days before arrival. After this deadline, the full cost of the reservation will be charged as a cancellation fee.

BUDAPEST & TANGO

BUDAPEST IN WINTER

Thermal baths. Ice skating. Coffeehouses. Hungarian comfort food. Concerts. And tango.

January is one of the best times to enjoy Budapest indoors and out.

Skate at the City Park Ice Rink, one of Europe’s largest outdoor ice rinks, with Vajdahunyad Castle behind you. The rink normally operates through the winter season, including January.

Warm up afterwards in one of Budapest’s historic cafés, or spend a few hours in a thermal bath such as Széchenyi or Rudas.

Try the flavours that make sense in winter: goulash, paprikash, stuffed cabbage, strudel, kürtőskalács and mulled wine — or explore Hungarian wines and pálinka through a tasting experience.

For culture, January already has several strong options. On 14 January, the Budapest Festival Orchestra performs at Müpa under Marin Alsop, with Nemanja Radulović, including Barber’s Violin Concerto and Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony. The same programme returns on 16 January.

At the Hungarian State Opera House, Best of Händel / Dido & Aeneas is scheduled for 14 and 15 January, while Puccini’s La Bohème is on 16 January.

Other easy winter choices include:

  • wine or pálinka tasting
  • a visit to the Pálinka Museum
  • Budapest’s historic market halls
  • an afternoon in a thermal bath
  • coffee and cake in a traditional coffeehouse
  • museums and galleries
  • an evening concert, opera or theatre performance
  • ice skating in City Park
  • Hungarian comfort food in a traditional restaurant

And, of course, save some energy for the evening.

TANGO IN BUDAPEST

Budapest has an active tango community with regular milongas throughout the week.

During the Canyengue Experience, we’ll recommend an optional local milonga for each evening, so you can combine the workshops with Budapest’s social tango scene.

Exact January milongas will be added once the local schedules are published.

The workshop is limited to a maximum of 10 couples. Singles are welcome, subject to suitable partner matching.

BEFORE BOOKING YOUR TRAVEL

The workshop requires a minimum of 14 paying participants, including at least 6 registered couples.

Please do not book non-refundable travel or accommodation until Tango2Vacation has confirmed that the workshop is going ahead.

If the required minimum is not reached and Tango2Vacation cancels the workshop, all payments made to Tango2Vacation will be refunded in full.

Tango2Vacation cannot reimburse independently booked flights, accommodation, transfers or other travel expenses.

The Workshop Only price is €210 per person.

A 50% deposit of €105 is required to confirm your place. Please make the payment within 7 days of registration.

The remaining €105 must be paid no later than 1 January 2027.

Registrations received close to the deadline require immediate payment of the full workshop price.

Optional Budapest programmes and the farewell dinner are paid separately upon arrival.

CANCELLATION POLICY

CANCELLATION BY PARTICIPANTS

Because this is an intentionally small workshop with a carefully maintained participant and partner balance, late cancellations can affect the viability of the entire programme.

Cancellation received by 15 December 2026

Workshop payments will be refunded, less a €25 administration fee and any bank or payment charges.

Cancellation received between 16 and 31 December 2026

The €105 deposit is non-refundable.

Any workshop balance already paid will be refunded, less any bank or payment charges.

Cancellation received from 1 January 2027

The full workshop price of €210 is non-refundable and remains payable.

No refund is available for missed sessions, late arrival, early departure or inability to attend for personal, medical or travel-related reasons.

TRANSFERRING YOUR PLACE

If you cannot attend, you may propose a suitable replacement participant.

Any replacement is subject to the organiser’s prior approval and must respect the workshop’s experience requirements and leader–follower balance.

If an approved replacement pays the full workshop price, your payment will be refunded, less a €25 administration fee, any bank or payment charges, and any non-recoverable costs already incurred.

PARTNER CANCELLATION

If one member of a registered couple cancels, Tango2Vacation will try to help find a suitable replacement partner but cannot guarantee partner matching.

The cancellation conditions apply separately to each registered participant.

NO-SHOW

In case of a no-show, the full workshop price of €210 remains payable.

CANCELLATION BY TANGO2VACATION

The workshop requires a minimum of 14 paying participants, including at least 6 registered couples.

If this minimum is not reached and Tango2Vacation cancels the workshop, all payments made to Tango2Vacation will be refunded in full.

Tango2Vacation cannot reimburse independently booked flights, accommodation, transfers or other travel arrangements.

ACCOMMODATION

Participants book and pay for their accommodation directly.

Any preferential hotel rate offered in connection with the workshop constitutes a separate booking between the participant and the hotel. The hotel’s own payment and cancellation conditions apply.

CHANGES TO THE WORKSHOP

Tango2Vacation may make reasonable changes to the workshop schedule, teacher, venue or other included arrangements when necessary because of operational circumstances, availability, safety considerations or circumstances beyond its control.

Where possible, any replacement or change will be of a comparable standard.

TRAVEL & INSURANCE

Participants arrange and pay for their own travel, accommodation, transfers and insurance.

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, medical expenses, accidents, travel disruption and other unexpected circumstances.

If illness, injury, flight disruption or another personal circumstance prevents a participant from travelling, the resulting expenses remain the responsibility of the participant and/or their insurance provider.

FORCE MAJEURE

Tango2Vacation cannot be held responsible for delays, changes or cancellation caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, extreme weather, war, terrorism, political unrest, epidemics or pandemics, government restrictions, strikes or major transport disruption.

If the workshop must be cancelled because of force majeure, payments made to Tango2Vacation will be refunded after deduction of any non-recoverable costs already committed to third parties, unless the participant accepts an alternative date or arrangement.
