Budapest is one of Europe’s great cultural capitals.

Over the past few decades, Budapest has re-emerged as one of the continent’s iconic cities. Split by the Danube and many bridges connect the two parts. Meet your guide at your hotel and begin the program in Pest.

Drive along the elegant Andrássy Avenue, the “Champs-Élysées” of Budapest. Continue to Heroes’ Square, representing 1,000 years of Hungarian history. Going through the historical Jewish district admire the neology synagogue. Across the river, explore the more traditional Buda side of the city. Visit the Citadel on top of Gellert Hill and pulsate together with the city from the most iconic viewpoint. Arriving at the Castle District up on the hilltop, enjoy the panoramic view of the city from the Fishermen’s Bastion and Matthias Church (the coronation spot of several Hungarian monarchs). Returning to your hotel driving along the riverbank you can take pictures of the beautiful Hungarian Parliament.

We tell you the story of the Matthias Church, the Fisherman’s Bastion next to it, the Royal Palace of Buda, and the Hungarian White House and you will be able to admire the view of the Buda hills and the Pest side, too. Finally, there is a useful orientation at the beautifully renovated Castle Garden Bazaar.

At the end of the tour, you can enjoy your lunch in a chic, a cosmopolitan, yet utterly local restaurant near the royal castle.

The happiest national holiday of the Hungarians  – St Stevens Day 

The 20th of August is always a very special celebration in Hungary. Think of it as a huge summer closing party, which has been extremely precious for the locals for thousands of years.  It’s one of our oldest national holidays when we celebrate the foundation of our state, the state’s founder Saint Stephen, and the “festival of new bread”. It’s not only a national holiday but also a state occasion, so numerous official events also take place on this day. The swearing-in of new military officers, water and air shows, ceremonial speeches and the spectacular firework show are all among the traditional programmes; but more recently, a number of other festivals have come to be associated with this red-letter day.

The extraordinary elegance of Budapest’s New York Cafe

Step inside the New York Café, and you may find yourself wondering if you’ve accidentally entered the Hungarian equivalent of the Sistine Chapel. It was built in Italian Renaissance style, with sparkling chandeliers dangling from high ceilings adorned by spectacular frescoes, it’s one of the oldest cafes in Budapest, dating back 125 years.
It looks more like a lavish palace than a place to grab a slice of cake and a coffee. The menu is made up of Hungary’s most traditional desserts, including around 16 cakes, but of course, it’s not the cuisine that everyone comes here for – it’s the magnificent setting.
